Background Information

Dalhousie University (commonly known as Dal) is one of Canada’s most respected universities and has an international reputation for academic excellence, innovative research and rich student experience. Beyond teaching and learning, our faculty and students are leaders in their communities, across the country and around the world. Dalhousie is a centre for marine research, and is host to the headquarters of the Ocean Tracking Network. The Dalhousie library system operates the largest library in Atlantic Canada, and holds the largest collection of agricultural resource material in the region.

The main campus located in the heart of Halifax’s historic South End; two downtown campuses are adjacent to Spring Garden Road, close to pubs, cafés, restaurants and a new city library. A campus in Truro, N.S.—about an hour from Halifax—is home to the only agriculture program in Atlantic Canada. Halifax gets about 120 days of fog each year, but the main campus, which combines vine-covered stone buildings with contemporary architecture, is warm and welcoming.
