Mount Saint Vincent University, often referred to as The Mount, its more than 140-year history is a story of humanity and growth. The Mount is located just minutes from downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia and is recognized for its small class sizes and personalized approach to learning. A diverse mix of 4,000 women and men from across Canada and more than 50 countries take advantage of the Mount’s programs and unique sense of community through on-campus classes and distance learning opportunities.
Today, the commitment to the advancement of women lives on at the hilltop campus. After a $12-million fundraising campaign, the new environmentally friendly Margaret Norrie McCain Centre for Teaching, Learning and Research opened in 2015. The centre is home to programs and initiatives in women’s studies, business, tourism and communications. “This is the first academic building in Canada devoted throughout to honouring and telling the stories of women,” says Ramona Lumpkin, who wraps up seven years as president. (Mary Bluechardt will succeed her.) Mount Saint Vincent takes a personalized approach to education and encourages socially responsible citizens. Class sizes are small and profs really do know everyone by their first name. Students get meaningful references when applying for graduate studies or jobs.

University Strengthen:
Mount Saint Vincent University offers 38 undergraduate degrees in liberal arts and sciences and an array of professional programs including Applied Human Nutrition, Business Administration, Child and Youth Study, Public Relations, Science Communication and Tourism and Hospitality Management. As well, the Mount has 13 graduate degrees in areas including Applied Human Nutrition, School Psychology, Child and Youth Study, Education, Family Studies and Gerontology, Public Relations and Women’s Studies. The Mount's first doctorate program, a PhD in Educational Studies, is a joint-initiative with St. Francis Xavier University and Acadia University. The Mount offer 10 full undergraduate degree programs and four graduate degree programs online.
The Mount makes available more than $2 million in scholarships and bursaries to students each year. You will be guaranteed a scholarship if you are a high school (domestic or international) applicant with an 80% or higher average if you apply by March 1st. Entrance scholarships may be available to transfer students as well.
- Public Relations: The Mount was the first Canadian university to offer a degree in this area in 1977. It has been recognized by the Canadian Public Relations Society for its excellence in public relations education.
- Public Policy Studies: Delve into real-world problems in areas such as health, the economy, foreign affairs and the environment; includes a 12-week internship.
- Tourism and Hospitality Management: Students benefit from small class sizes, experiential learning and the chance to learn alongside faculty who have a wide-range of research interests and industry experience.
