Background Information

Nova Scotia Community College, commonly referred to as NSCC, is a community college serving the province of Nova Scotia. The college delivers a diverse range of programs in the schools of Trades and Technology, Health and Human Services, Applied Arts and New Media, Business and Access.

Originally Nova Scotia's post-secondary specialized training and vocational institutes operated independently, however on 1 April 1996, the Nova Scotia Community College was created by an act of the provincial legislature as a means to centralize administration, coordinate funding and remove program duplication (An Act Respecting Collège de l'Acadie and the Nova Scotia Community College). Since then, the NSCC network of campuses has evolved into a province-wide, community-based, community college, with polytechnical, applied arts and health science educational programs. Educating over 25,000 students a year, the NSCC provides the majority of technical and apprenticeship training in the province of Nova Scotia.

School Strengthen

NSCC provides the most practical, hands-on education students can get in Nova Scotia. With instructors from industry, curriculum developed in cooperation with industry, small classes (typically 20-30 students), work terms and co-op placements, student will find studying at NSCC is a real-world experience.

NSCC are committed to student success, and that begins with helping ensure every student find the program that's right for them. Whether students are interested in exploring Applied Arts & New Media, Business, Health & Human Services, or Trades & Technology, NSCC can help. The Career in Gear website (careeringear.nscc.ca) is designed to help students understand their own strengths and preferences, and connect with a program that leads to a career they love. Test Drives can be arranged at all NSCC campuses, so students can check out the shops and labs and see what studying at NSCC is really like. There is also an Open House every Fall at all NSCC campuses. Visit nscc.ca/OpenHouse to learn more.

NSCC grads are work-ready, but students can also continue their education and build on what they have learned at NSCC. Formal agreements in place with other post-secondary institutions allow students to apply some NSCC credits toward a university degree.
